Today, in observance of the first official Truth and Reconciliation Day, we wear orange.
Students and staff put on their orange shirts in remembrance of the indigenous children who were lost in residential schools, as well as the survivors, their families, and communities. We held an informative PA announcement including an indigenous rendition of Canada's national anthem, a story about Phyllis Webstad, the founder of the Orange Shirt Society, and a special poem entitled "I lost my Talk" by Rita Joe.
If you'd like to purchase an orange shirt, you can do so at 30 College St. at the Native Child and Family Services Centre.
Every child matters.
