Interactive Learning at TAIE: Building Confidence and Career Paths

When Emilia first arrived at TAIE from Nigeria, she had one major worry: "I thought I wouldn't have any friends." Today, as a Grade 12 student with her sights set on studying medicine, that worry is a distant memory. Her journey is a perfect example of how the right environment can transform a student’s academic experience and personal confidence.

From Rote Learning to Active Collaboration

One of the most striking parts of Emilia’s story is the shift in how she learns. In Nigeria, she was used to a traditional system—listening in class, copying notes, and writing endless tests.

At TAIE, she discovered a completely different world:

  • Teamwork: Learning through group interactions and peer collaboration.

  • Engagement: A system where teachers make learning "fun" and interactive.

  • Flexibility: The ability to take courses in three-month blocks, allowing her to focus deeply on her subjects without feeling overwhelmed.

"The learning system here is very easy for students to pass because it gives you the time to really learn," Emilia explains.

More Than a School: A Global Family

For Emilia, TAIE wasn’t just about the OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma); it was about finding a place where she could be herself. From the basketball court to the Turkish New Year celebrations and dance competitions, she found a community that embraced her culture and background.

She highlights the "Open Door" policy of the staff: whether it’s a personal problem or an academic hurdle, there is always someone happy to help. This support system turned her initial anxiety into a sense of belonging.

The Path to Medicine

Emilia has had a "flair for medicine" since she was a child. To reach her goal of studying in Grenada, she knew she needed a recognized program like the OSSD and strong IELTS scores. TAIE provided the specific "career path" focus she needed to make that dream a reality.

Emilia’s Advice: Just Come Here

When asked what she would tell other international students, her message was simple:

"I would advise them to come here. It allows you not only to be yourself but to mix with different cultures and languages."

Emilia is no longer just a student sitting in a classroom; she is a future medical professional who has found her voice and her confidence while studying abroad in Toronto.
