Kirk A.W. Wipper - Chancellor and Principal

Mr. Kirk Wipper was a senior professor of the University of Toronto from 1950 - 1988. He was awarded the "Arbor Award" by the University.
Mr. Wipper is well known as the founder and director of the Kanawa International Museum (later the Canadian Canoe Museum), now the largest in the world. One of his primary concerns is how to pass on to young people an appreciation for our natural surroundings and our colourful heritage. He also owned and directed a summer camp for boys in Haliburton.
Kirk Wipper holds a number of degrees: a Bachelor of Phys. Ed., Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Arts, and Master of Education from the University of Toronto, and a Doctor of Museology from Wolfe University. He also ran an excellent TV series for CBC named, 'Walk with Kirk '.
University of Toronto awards the "Kirk A.W. Wipper Award " for outstanding students.
Due to his great contribution to Canada, he was awarded her highest honor--"Order of Canada" in 2002.

Arthur Wang - Executive Vice Principal

Mr. Arthur S. Wang has been teaching and doing research since the 1960's in China, the U.S.A. and Canada. His expertise lies in the following areas: English, ESL, American Literature, and Cross-Cultural Studies as a Professor in China, Fulbright Professor in Residence in the USA at Ashland University, Visiting Professor at University of Illinois at Springfield, Visiting Researcher at University of Houston, and Instructor with TESL Ontario Certificate.
His experience in administration includes eight years as Chairperson of the English Department and five years as Head of the American Studies Center in a university in China; and one year as Vice Director of the Chinese Proficiency Test Committee at the University of Houston and CEO of the International Culture and Education Exchange Center for three years in Canada and Chief Representative in Canada for Upper Iowa University for three years.
He holds his Master Degree of English from the University of Illinois at Springfield (formerly Sangmon State University), in the USA. As an author or co-author or co-translator, he has published fourteen books in China and the U.S.A., thirty-six articles in academic journals in China and the U.S.A., and has presented twenty-eight papers at professional conferences in China, Korea, the U.S.A. and Hong Kong.

Paul Raymond - Education Consultant

As a teacher, principal, superintendent and director, Paul Raymond has thirty years of educational experience in Ontario. He holds four university degrees, including an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto. He also holds Principal and Supervisory Officer certificates from the Ministry of Education.
From 1971 to 1990, Mr. Raymond was a Teacher, Department Head, Consultant and Principal with the former North York Board of Education.
From 1990, Mr. Raymond was a member of the Ontario Ministry of Education's senior management group.

Brenda MacDonald – Administrator and ELC Chair

Brenda MacDonald, originally from Southern Ontario, joined TAIE as an English teacher in 2002.  Brenda holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a Diploma in Education, and a Master of Education from McGill University.  As a member of the TAIE Family, she has helped to develop English course materials according to government standards, has taught four levels of ESL as well as the Literacy and English 4U courses and has assisted new teachers by “showing them the ropes.”  Brenda has overseas experience, has studied a second language and is committed to high professional standards.  She enjoys working in an international environment. 

Erin Gallagher – Academic Guidance Counsellor

Erin received her Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Radio and Television Arts with a minor in English from Ryerson University in 2006. After graduating from Ryerson she became employed by the university as a lab assistant where she taught audio and television production to undergraduate students. In 2008 Erin received her Masters of Science degree in Education from Niagara University where she graduated Summa Cume Laude, and began working at TAIE as an Academic Guidance Counsellor. Her main goal at TAIE is to enable all students to feel comfortable discussing their academic and career goals.

Erin is an avid cyclist who took the trip of a lifetime in the summer of 2003 cycling over 4850 kilometres from Vancouver to Toronto. Erin also plays Gaelic Football (Irish Soccer) for the Canadian team and has had the opportunity to represent Canada at the two last world games in Dublin Ireland. Erin leads a very healthy lifestyle and practices Yoga daily.


Sam Burton-ESL Teacher

Dr. Sam Burton, an ESL teacher for over 37 years, has received his doctorate degree from Marlborough University in UK and obtained his second MA in Education from the States. He also holds a diploma in Creative Writing from SCI in Montreal, QC., Canada. He entertains a sound knowledge of strategies to promote teaching excellence, development, assessment policy and related matters. He was and still an actor, a director, and an instructor of Shakespearean drama. He has published lots of poems, short stories and novels. He is also a calligrapher, an oil painter, and a tennis trainer. He is still a member of TESL and an affiliate to a lot of local and international associations.
Andrew Linder-EAP & CAEL Preparation Teacher

Dr. Andrew Linder received his M.A. from McGill University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.  He has taught transitional courses to successful university studies throughout his teaching career, including the Transitional Year Programs for the University of Toronto.  He also designed transitional programs specifically for International Students at the new University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT).  In addition, his lectures for the IEEE at the MIT and other published scholarly studies are available on-line.  Having taught college and university courses throughout his teaching career, Dr. Linder takes great delight in preparing TAIE Institute students for successful university careers. 

Mike  Timson - Math Teacher

Mike received his Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science and Combinatorics and Optimization from the University of Waterloo in 1987 and his Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto in 1988. Following teacher’s college, he returned to the private school from which he graduated and taught there for 15 years. After that, he worked in the private sector as a computer consultant and also did educational consulting.  More recently, he decided to return to teaching, and has worked at various private schools in the Toronto area, including the University of Toronto Schools, and now enjoys teaching the university preparation math courses at TAIE. His passion has always been teaching, but he also enjoys playing the piano and participating in team sports in his spare time.

Ryan Miller - Social Science Teacher

Ryan received his bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and Political Science from Brock University in 2006 and his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto in 2007.  Since his graduation in June of 2007, Ryan has accumulated a diversity of teaching experience working as a teacher for the Canadian Department of Immigration, teaching college-level English, and designing learning resources for elementary students.  Ryan now enjoys preparing his ESL students at TAIE for the next step in their academic careers.  Outside of the classroom, Ryan loves spending time with friends and family and enjoys a good argument.

Willi Beraru- Science Teacher

Willi received his Bachelor of Physics in Atomic and Sub-Nuclear Quantic Physics from the University of Bucharest and graduated from Global TESOL College in Edmonton, Alberta. He started his international teaching journey in Costa Rica and finished in Thailand, with short breaks in China and Japan. Willi now enjoys teaching the University Preparation Physics course at TAIE. His passion has always been teaching but he also enjoys making computer programs and fishing in his spare time.

John Kosari - Science & Math Teacher

John received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo and his Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor.  He started his teaching career for school boards and has completed many long-term assignments. Recently, he decided to return to teaching at a private school and now enjoys teaching Physics and Math at TAIE.  His passion has always been teaching, but he also enjoys reading and playing chess and tennis.

Jonathan Feldman-Math Teacher

Jonathan completed his Bachelor of Science degree in computing science and math at McGill in 1996.  He then went on to study music technology in the Media Lab at M.I.T.  In 2003, he returned to school to complete his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Western Ontario, and has been teaching math ever since.  Jonathan’s passions are teaching, mathematics, and music.  In addition to teaching, Jonathan leads two bands and plays jazz piano.


Svetlana Petrova - ESL Teacher

Svetlana got her Master's degree in English in 2001 and her Bachelor of Education in 2008 at the University of Toronto. Following teacher's college she was happy to have joined the TAIE team.  Svetlana has taught the English language in Europe and loves working with young people. Her passion has always been writing poetry and reading detective novels. She belongs to a few professional organizations and is involved with the Eastern European community.

Matthew Leslie - English Teacher

Matthew Leslie received an Honour’s B.A. in English from the University of Windsor in 2003.  Upon graduation, he moved to Montreal and taught ESL for two years.  In 2005, he moved to Fredericton to pursue a Masters Degree in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of New Brunswick.  He recently completed his thesis and now considers Toronto his home.  When not teaching, he spends his time writing fiction, making music and riding the streetcar around town. 

Moses Klein - Math Teacher

Moses Klein studied mathematics and philosophy at Yale University and the University of Wisconsin. In between, he spent two years backpacking around South and Southeast Asia. He taught mathematics at three American universities before joining the TAIE faculty in February 2009. When not teaching, he enjoys classical and jazz music, international film, and playing bridge.

Natasha Alexander Mackenzie - Music Teacher

Natasha Alexander Mackenzie received her formal training in Los Angeles under the guidance of Mr. Seth Riggs, a most sought after coach in North America at the Vocal Institute of California. She also holds a degree in homeopathic modalities, and is a certified film producer. Her credits include film, theatre, television and Opera. She also co-produced the 1999 Crystal Awards for Women in Film and Television as well and directed and produced the New Millennium Concert 2000 at the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts. Natasha co-wrote, co-produced and was an on-air celebrity at KPLS, Los Angeles. She was nominated for the Canadian Women's Mentorship Award in 1999. She has coached actors, speakers, and singers and has restored vocal power where such restoration was deemed impossible. Natasha is currently working towards a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.

Blair Trewartha - English Teacher

Blair Trewartha graduated from the University of Guelph, Ontario, with a double major in Honours English Literature and History. After completion of University, Blair went on to teach ESL courses in South Korea for one year. His passion has always been teaching, as well as writing. His poetry has been published in various literary magazines in Canada. Aside from teaching ENG 3U, ENG 4U, and CHI4U courses at TAIE, Blair also volunteers for a literary magazine in Toronto, conducting interviews with established Canadian poets.


Sara Azawi-ESL Teacher

Sara got her bachelors of English literature in 1996.  Sara also holds a diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language from the Canadian College of Educators, and she is an Ontario certified ESL Teacher.  Besides her literary education, Sara has an Degree in Computer Hardware and Software; she is a computer technician and tutor.  Sara is an experienced teacher and has been teaching ESL overseas and in Canada for over 19 years. Sara loves classical music and attending symphonies; she loves to listen to Rimsky Korsakov masterpieces and Tchaikovsky’s classics as well.  

Stan Howe-ESL Teacher

Stan received his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as a TESL Certificate.  Following university, Stan spent five years teaching at Chusun University Technical in South Korea.  Stan has also made a contribution to a series of ESL Phonics books for children published by e-learning Co. in South Korea.  After returning to Canada, he continued to teach ESL at a number of institutions in the Greater Toronto Area, and now enjoys teaching at TAIE.  Stan has always enjoyed teaching but has a love for the arts as well.

Jennifer Whitehead-ESL Teacher

Jennifer received her Honours B.A. in English Literature from the University of Toronto.  After this, she studied ceramics at George Brown College.  She ran her own studio, and has taught at Upper Canada College.  She still has the great passion for English language and literature so that she enjoys the pleasure of teaching ESL to the international students at TAIE.

Emma Beraru-Science Teacher

Emma received her Bachelor Degree in Biology from the University of Bucharest. She started her career in teaching Biology and Chemistry at the High School level. Emma graduated from CDI College and Global TESOL College in Edmonton, Alberta, and used the opportunity to teach around the world in various international private and governmental schools, from Central America to Asia. Emma now enjoys teaching the University Preparation Biology course at TAIE. She also enjoys hiking.

Tiziana DeLuca-Physics Teacher

Tiziana DeLuca obtained her honors Bachelor of Science in Physics from Brock University. Her research interests at the time were in the area of superconductivity. She proceeded to obtain an MBA from the Schulich School of Business. Her focus was in international business and spent some time working in Europe at BMW and Daimler-Benz-Aerospace. She also taught North American business practices to Eastern European businesses when they were entering the North American market. Her varied interests have led her to a variety of positions. She was a technical trainer for a wireless software provider, a translator, and a consultant for a biomedical company. She enjoys teaching and in the winter volunteers as a ski instructor for children with challenges. In the summer, she participates in many dragon boat races throughout the province.

Paul Martin - Accounting Teacher

Paul has continually studied and worked during his career after attending York University where he received a B.A.  Later working in the Insurance Industry, he established a Tax Preparation service that grew to three locations in metropolitan Toronto. He then taught a program for mature students returning to the workplace at Durham Regional College.  After working as a System Analyst for a private laboratory and an Operation Analyst at the Toronto Stock Exchange, he returned to teaching and again became a student attending York University’s Schulich School of Business where he received a Masters Certificate in Project Management. Paul is pleased to join the team of teachers at TAIE International Institute, where he currently teaches Accounting.
